Here’s a simple recipe for Pumpkin and Carrot Dog Treats to get you started!

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup pure pumpkin puree (not pie filling)

  • 1 large carrot, finely grated

  • 2 eggs

  • 2½ cups whole wheat flour (or oat flour for grain-sensitive dogs)

  • 1 tablespoon coconut oil, melted

  • ¼ cup water (plus more if needed)

  • 1 teaspoon ground ginger (optional, helps with digestion)

Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line two baking sheets with parchment paper.

  2. In a large bowl, combine pumpkin puree, grated carrot, eggs, and melted coconut oil.

  3. Gradually add the flour and ginger (if using), mixing well. Add water as needed to form a workable dough that's not too sticky.

  4. Turn dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead a few times until it comes together.

  5. Roll out to approximately ¼ inch thickness.

  6. Cut into desired shapes using cookie cutters or a knife.

  7. Place treats on prepared baking sheets, leaving a small space between each.

  8. Bake for 20-25 minutes until the edges are golden brown and treats are firm.

  9. For crunchier treats, turn off the oven and leave them inside for an additional 30 minutes as it cools.

Storage:

  • Room temperature in an airtight container: up to 1 week

  • Refrigerated: up to 3 weeks

  • Frozen: up to 6 months

Health Benefits:

  • Pumpkin aids in digestion and can help with both diarrhea and constipation

  • Carrots provide vitamin A and beta-carotene for eye health

  • Ginger can help with nausea and reduce inflammation

  • Coconut oil supports skin and coat health
